Our lives are often filled with many things that can cause us to age prematurely, such as stress, lifestyle choices, sun exposure, etc.

Thankfully, there are also many things currently available that can help combat or delay these effects. Botox, lasers, chemical peels are all examples of such treatment options. Microtox, a newer, less invasive treatment is another option available that can help renew and rejuvenate your skin.

What is microtox?

Microtox, commonly known as baby Botox, is a cosmetic procedure that involves administering small doses of Botox directly beneath the skin to achieve natural looking results.

This allows for a more subtle improvement of fine lines and skin definition without targeting the muscles, like traditional Botox does. With microtox, the fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced but they won’t disappear completely, thus leaving your skin looking refreshed but natural.

About Microtox

Microtox can be used to:

  • Improve skin tone
  • Reduce pore size
  • Combat oily skin
  • Decrease sweat production

By improving these issues, microtox can also improve acne seborrhoea (excessively oily skin), resulting in a smooth and youthful appearance.

How does microtox work?

Microtox works by administering small doses of Botox beneath the skin, targeting different areas of the face such as:

  • Outer edges of the face: give an overall lift to the face by tightening skin, lifting sagginess, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • T-zone: tighten pores to reduce oil and sweat production. This helps to improve acne, reduce the appearance of pores, and controls redness.
  • Lower jaw and neck: improve jaw contour and definition and tightens saggy neck skin.

Microtox can also be combined with traditional Botox treatment to further enhance your skin’s youthfulness.

What should I expect before the procedure?

Medical history

It is important to give honest answers with regards to your medical history. This allows your surgeon to make accurate and safe decisions with regards to the procedure. Inform your surgeon about any medications, surgeries, or allergies you have/had. You must also inform your surgeon if you have diabetes, circulatory problems, thyroid problems, and other health issues if any.

Physical examination

Your surgeon will conduct a physical examination of your face and neck to help identify any problem areas that can be treated with microtox.

After this, you and your surgeon will discuss the options available and the possible results with each option. Once the treatment plan has been decided for you, your procedure will be booked. Before the procedure, you must:

  • Stop smoking: smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and hinders the healing process. It also increases your risk of tissue damage.
  • Stop some medications: medications such as aspirins and anti-inflammatory drugs are blood thinners which may increase bleeding during and after the procedure.

What should I expect during the procedure?

Microtox is a quick, out-patient procedure and involves the following steps:

  • Arrive for your appointment without any make-up.
  • Numbing cream is applied to your face/neck.
  • After 20-30 minutes, small needles are used to inject dilute doses of Botox into the dermis of the targeted areas.

The whole procedure should take 15-30 minutes and you will have no down time.

During your personalised consultation, Dr. Andrew Cheah will have a frank discussion with you to understand your unique needs and goals.

He will carefully address your questions and concerns, and clearly explain what you can achieve with Microtox. A personalised surgical plan will be devised to achieve your goals and guarantee a sleek, natural and harmonious result.

All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. The procedure should be carried in a safe environment and in an accredited clinic. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome could occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
